The type locality was only recorded as "Mindanao, Philippine Islands" by Boulenger, 1887; type stored in the British Museum; BMNH 1947.2.20.57

Mindanao Pleistocene Aggregate Island Complex (PAIC; Brown and Diesmos, 2002).

This species is currently recognized to be distributed across much of central and eastern Mindanao Island in the souther Philippines (Sanguila et al., 2011).

Look Alikes

Most closely resembles Ansonia mcgregori, but was described to differ by the following characters: 1) absence of constriction of neck, 2) absence of rounded depressions in the post-temporal region, 3) having entire upper surface of body smooth, 4) two metatarsal tubercles, 5) greater degree of webbing between toes (Taylor, 1922).
