Privacy and Users
We believe free and accessible knowledge is the best way to address the conservation of amphibians worldwide. We hope AmphibiaWeb will encourage a shared vision to collaboratively face the challenge of global amphibian declines and the conservation of remaining amphibians and their habitats. Thus, Users may:
Read and use our site without registering. Link to our site pages without registering. If you do link to our web pages (domain: amphibiaweb.org) then we ask that you respect our data sources and acknowledge AmphibiaWeb and its data sources accordingly. See below. We apply third-party analytics software and cookies such as Google Analytics to monitor anonymous website traffic and behavior for internal use only. Information may be used in aggregate and does not contain identifiable data (e.g., names, phone numbers, addresses, etc).
Any self-reported user's information will never be sold or shared beyond AmphibiaWeb without explicit consent from the user. If contacted, we may ask users for details about browser configurations, location, etc, to troubleshoot or help identify species but this information is considered to be confidential and is not made available to third parties.
By using AmphibiaWeb, you represent and warrant that your use will be consistent with these Terms of Use, including fair use. You agree to indemnify, defend and hold AmphibiaWeb and University of California, Berkeley, harmless from all claims, causes of action, allegations, costs, expenses, fees (including reasonable attorneys’ fees), judgments, liabilities, losses, and damages arising from or relating to your use of AmphibiaWeb.
AmphibiaWeb updates its pages regularly, but assumes no responsibility for the accuracy, currency, or completeness of content. Please report any errors or inaccuracies.
For AmphibiaWeb IOS & Android app users (links to come):
No sign-in is needed to use the app. The app is an extension of the website, and does not collect, store or send personal information. The app will request your location based on its internal GPS so the app may obtain your coordinates, which are required to send a location-based query and retrieve which amphibian species are in the surrounding area. You will be asked permission when this data is needed, and the application does not store this data after the query is processed.
Donations
Our content is volunteer-contributed or generated by the AmphibiaWeb team; we rely on donations and grants to provide these resources. When you donate money to AmphibiaWeb via our donation page, the University of California, Berkeley, will use your personal information for the purpose of processing your donation. AmphibiaWeb's donation capability is subject to University of California, Berkeley's privacy statement and other terms which govern the use of those services. The policies are available on their site.
We will use your information to acknowledge personally each gift and can supply a letter to confirm your tax-deductible donation (US only) as allowable for a U.S. non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. We will never share details of your donation unless explicit consent is acquired.
Acknowledgement
Acknowledging use of AmphibiaWeb is an important part of demonstrating our value to the community. Please let us know if you are using AmphibiaWeb in your work! If cited in a publication, we may use public databases such as Web of Science to discover and enumerate use of AmphibiaWeb.
