Thorius boreas Hanken et Wake, 1994

Grande espèce de la Sierra de Juarez du nord de l’Oaxaca. 3,5 cm SVL. Proche génétiquement de T. aureus. Aspect robuste. Coloration dorsale et ventrale très sombre, une bande dorsale à peine visible avec parfois des marques en chevron plus claires. Petites taches blanches sur les parties ventro-latérales. Narine grande et ovale. Queue robuste, membres, mains et pieds modérés. Glande menton­ nière du mâle claire et proéminente. Région de Llano de Las Flores et autres localités le long de la route 175 au nord et au sud du Cerro Pelon, dans la Sierra de Juarez, entre 2 850 et 2 950 m, à terre, dans les forêts mixtes pins/chênes/sapins où règnent des températures basses. Cohabite avec T. macdougalli dans plusieurs localités dans et près de Llano de Las Flores et avec T. macdougalli et aureus dans un ravin profond qui traverse la route 175 au nord du sommet de Cerro Pelon. 78 km². ENGLISH TRANSLATION - Julian Wittische

It is a big species relatively to the genus. 3.5cm SVL. It is genetically close to T. aureus. It is robust looking. Dorsal and ventral parts are very dark. There is a barely visible dorsal stripe with sometimes lighter chevron-like marks. There are small white spots on ventro-lateral parts. The nostril is big and oval. The tail is robust, and the hands and feet are medium-sized. The mental gland of the male is prominent.

Habitat & Range: It is found in Llano de Las Flores area and other localities along the road 175, north and south of Cerro Pelon in the Sierra de Juarez, between 2850 and 2950m. It is terrestrial and lives in mixed pine/oak forests where temperatures are rather low. It is syntopic with T. macdougalli in several localities in and near Llano de Las Flores and with T. macdouglli and T. aureus in a deep ravine which goes under the road 175 north of the Cerro Pelon summit. 78Km².

Conservation: Endangered. Declining.
