Etymology:

Herpetologists are often ill-equipped in the rainy season when Synapturanus zombie are found, causing researchers to become soaked and muddy like zombies coming from the ground. Raffael Ernst stated that the species epithet comes from the appearance of the researchers when digging frogs out of the ground at night in the mud (Fouquet et al. 2021a, Martel 2021).
