Etymology: The species epithet, “valentinei”, is derived from the name of the researcher who first described them: Barry Valentine. Valentine distinguished D. valentinei from other species in the Desmognathus genus that are found in the southeastern United States, including D. auriculatus (Means et. al 2017). |
