Description
A medium-sized Hyperolius (males 26-29 mm) from the savanna in Zambia. Both sexes green to brownish with a thin red canthal and dorsolateral line. Males with a large flat turquoise gular flap. Pupil horizontal.

H. kachalolae is similar to H. argus, but there are a number of differences. It is smaller, with a larger gular flap, more reduced webbing, different colour of the extended gular sac and a different female coloration. The voice is also different.

Collected in a rather dense savanna, where the males would call from scattered trees and grass stems. Only known from a few localities in Zambia and Malawi.

Life History, Abundance, Activity, and Special Behaviors
The call consists of single screams with a peculiar tonal quality. The single call has a long duration (0.1 sec) and an acoustical structure made up of a number of harmonics 4-500 cps. apart.

Comments
It seems likely that the name H. kachalolae is a junior synonym of H. bocagei (Schiøtz & Van Daelen 2003)
