Range Description

This species is mainly found on the Laikipia Plateau with two northern populations in Maralal and Baragoi regions, Kenya, between 1,313-1,952m asl (Wasonga & Channing, 2013). Its extent of occurrence (EOO) is 12,019 km2.

Habitat and Ecology

This species is found in savannah and other open habitats, which include man-made and natural water points (Wasonga and Channing, 2013). Calling males have been found solitary in shallow edges of waterbodies and large breeding congregations have been observed in Laikipia Nature Conservancy; however it is unknown whether this species lays eggs or has tadpoles (Wasonga & Channing, 2013).


This species is known from nine specimens (Wasonga & Channing, 2011).

Major Threats

This species may be threatened by agricultural expansion and habitat destruction, however given that the range overlaps with many protected areas the threat is likely to be very limited.

The range of this species overlaps with many protected areas including Laikipia National Reserve, Ngare Ndare Community Conservancy, Ol Pejeta Conservancy and Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (Wasonga & Channing, 2013).

Listed as Least Concern because, despite its extent of occurrence (EOO) of 12,019 km2 and potential threats, the range overlaps with many protected areas and it is a very adaptable species.
