Description
M 57-59 mm at the type locality, M 44 mm, F 46 mm in a population from Andapa. This species is morphologically similar to G. depressiceps. Individuals from the type locality, which occur sympatrically with G. depressiceps and G. tornieri, have a larger body size. Genetically, this species appears to be closely related to G. tornieri (Glaw and Vences 2007).

This species is found near An'Ala in eastern Madagascar, and Andapa in north-eastern Madagascar (Glaw and Vences 2007), from 500-840 m asl (Glaw and Vallan 2008). Its habitat is pristine rainforest or secondary bushland, along swampy streams (Glaw and Vallan 2008).

Life History, Abundance, Activity, and Special Behaviors
Habits: Similar to G. depressiceps. White egg masses are a shared character only between these two species (G. kathrinae and G. depressiceps) (Glaw and Vences 2007). It breeds in pools and swamps close to streams (Glaw and Vallan 2008).

Calls: Series of 3-4 notes, each consisting of up to 7 pulses (Glaw and Vences 2007).

Trends and Threats
Locally abundant when breeding, but no long-term data exist on population trends. This species may occur in one protected area, the Parc National de Marojejy (Glaw and Vallan 2008).

Possible reasons for amphibian decline
