This species is known only from eastern Fujian province (Fuzhou, Fuqing, Yongtai and Changle, Xianyou), China. It has been recorded from 110-550m asl.
Habitat and Ecology
It inhabits pools, marshes and grassy banks along small streams, but also occurs in the grassy edges of paddy fields. It breeds in still-water habitats.
This is an uncommon species that is in decline, and the Fuzhou population has entirely disappeared.
The decline of this species is probably related to habitat loss due to infrastructure development and intensification of agriculture, as well as water pollution.
It is not known to be present in any protected areas, and habitat protection is urgently needed.
