Range Description

This species is known only from its type locality: on the eastern flank of the Serran√≠a de Perij√° in the Department of Norte de Santander, at 1,030 m Asl. Two specimens collected from c. 10 km along the road from the type locality, at the same elevation, are likely to belong to this species; however this needs confirmation (Lynch 2008).

Habitat and Ecology

Little ecological information about this species exists, since it was described from museum specimens. If similar to other species in the genus, this species may inhabit humid forested slopes of the Andes, and perch on limbs of low bushes and cling to rocks in spray zones of waterfalls (Duellman and Trueb 2015). It is possible that the eggs are carried on the back of the female and the young develop directly, as with other congeners (L. A. Rueda-Solano and F. L. Meza-Joya pers. comm. 2017).

There is little information on the population size and trends of this species, since it was described fairly recently (2008) and there have been no surveys since its description (L. A. Rueda-Solano and F. L. Meza-Joya pers. comm. 2017). The species was described from museum specimens collected by Lynch and other collaborators in 1992 (Lynch 2008).

Population Trend

Major Threats

There is no current knowledge about the threats to this species (L. A. Rueda-Solano and F. L. Meza-Joya pers. comm. 2017).

Conservation Actions

Conservation Actions
It is not known from any protected areas (L. A. Rueda-Solano and F. L. Meza-Joya pers. comm. 2017).

Research Needed

More information is needed on this species' distribution (including the identity of the two potential nearby records), population status, ecology, and threats. Further survey work is needed to determine if it occurs outside the vicinity of the type locality.

Red List Status

Data Deficient (DD)

Listed as Data Deficient in view of continuing uncertainties as to its extent of occurrence (EOO), population status, ecological requirements and threats.
