Only known from the state of Rio de Janeiro in the municipalities of Engenheiro Paulo de Frontin and Petropolis.

Trends and Threats
This species has not yet been assessed by the IUCN Red List; however, Bornschein et al (2019) analyzed the Brachycephalus species using the IUCN Red List criteria with newer locality information and concluded this species should be listed as Endangered, based on its extremely small known range and ongoing habitat loss (criteria B1ab(i,iii)).
