This species from the Atlantic forests of coastal southeastern Brazil occurs from the State of Rio de Janeiro, south to the State of Santa Catarina, Brazil. It ranges up to 1,000m.asl.
Habitat and Ecology
It lives in primary and old secondary forest along streams, and is not found in open habitats. It is usually found on the ground or on low vegetation near forest streams. It breeds in streams.
It is reasonably common, but is not abundant.
Some major threats are probably related to habitat loss due to agriculture, livestock grazing, clear-cutting and human settlement.
This species has recently tested positive for Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis infection (Toledo et al., 2006b).
It occurs in several protected areas.

This species was previously within the genus Hyla but has recently been moved to the genus Bokermannohyla (Faivovich, et al., 2005).
