Oophaga vicentei (Jungfer, Weygoldt & Juraske, 1996)
Vicente’s Poison Frog
family: Dendrobatidae
subfamily: Dendrobatinae
genus: Oophaga
Species Description: Jungfer K.-H., Weygoldt, P. and Juraske, N. (1996). Dendrobates vicentei, ein neuer Pfeilgiftfrosch aus Zentral-Panama, Herpetofauna, 18(103), 17-26.

Etymology: In 2011, the genus Dendrobates was subdivided into seven genera, including the new genus Oophaga by Brown et al. (2011). The origin of the genus name, "Oophaga", comes from the Greek words, "oon" and "phagein", meaning "egg" and "eat", respectively (Ortiz et al. 2018).

This species epithet, “vicentei”, is in honor of Vicente Agusto Fernandez who was a collaborator with the authors who had perished in an accident (Jungfer et al. 1996).
