Species Description: Lynch, J. (1982). Two new species of poison-dart frogs (Colostethus) from Colombia. Herpetologica, 38(3), 366–374.
 
Etymology: The species epithet, “edwardsi” was chosen by John Lynch in honor of his colleague, Stephen R. Edwards, who studies dendrobatids (Lynch 1982).
