Description
M 38-40 mm, F 39 mm. Distinct and elevated interocular tubercles present. Weakly expressed inner and outer dorsolateral ridges. Small supraocular tubercles or spines. Males with a greyish, largely distensible, single subgular vocal sac.

An’Ala, Andasibe, Vohidrazana.

Its recorded altitudinal range is 850-1200m, possibly higher (Glaw and Vences 2008).

Life History, Abundance, Activity, and Special Behaviors
Habits: Males call from perches about 1.5 m above the ground in the vegetation, in rainforest, often along streams but at some distance from the water.

Calls: A slow series of unharmonious notes.

Eggs and tadpoles: Unknown, probably not a direct developing species.

Trends and Threats
This species is listed as data deficient in view of continuing uncertainties as to its extent of occurrence, status and ecological requirements. Its forest habitat is receding due to subsistence agriculture, timber extraction, charcoal manufacture, invasive spread of eucalyptus, livestock grazing and expanding human settlements. It occurs in the Réserve Spéciale d’Analamazaotra (Glaw and Vences 2008).

Possible reasons for amphibian decline

General habitat alteration and loss
Habitat modification from deforestation, or logging related activities
Intensified agriculture or grazing
Urbanization
