Taxonomic Notes: After morphological and molecular phylogenetic analysis, Cynops cyanurus yunnanensis was elevated to species by Lyu Z. T., Qi S., Zhang S. Y., Dai K. Y., Wang Y. Y. Two New Species of Fire-Bellied Newts (Caudata, Salamandridae, Cynops) from Southeastern China. Asian Herpetol Res, 2023, 14(1): 41–53. DOI: 10.16373/j.cnki.ahr.220059. Consequently Cynops puerensis was indistinguishable morphologically from C. yunnanensis and was synonymized with it. However, their study was inconclusive due to sampling gaps whether C. chenggongensis and C. cyanurus chuxiongensis also belong to the same taxon. Further studies are needed. |
