  Hylodidae

47 species in 3 genera

The family Hylodidae is relatively new taxonomically. Members of this family occur in northwestern Brazil to southern Brazil and northern Argentina. One unusual member of this family, Hylodes asper, lives in noisy environments near waterfalls. Males call, but also communicate territoriality by foot-flagging (alternate slow waving of each rear foot high in the air; see species account for video).
