This species is endemic to central and southern China and is known from Guizhou, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Taiwan and Hong Kong. It has been recorded from 30-1,500m asl.
Habitat and Ecology
It inhabits forests, and breeds in pools, marshes, paddy fields, ditches, ponds and slow-flowing streams.
It is a very common species.
Habitat destruction and degradation, in particular logging, is a possible threat to this species.
Many protected areas support this species.
