Description
Dendrotriton sanctibarbarus is a generally brown colored salamander, although species of olive green coloration with irregular dark brown blotches have also been observed. A posterior-pointing, dark chevron is also observed in many individuals. Enlarged nostril openings, well-developed labial protuberances and a broadly rounded snout are also observed in this species. A slightly constricted tail, with slender, relatively long limbs are also present, usually displaying one half costal fold between adpressed limbs in males, and one costal fold between females.

This species can be distinguished between Cryptotriton nasalis by having a relatively longer head, and a reduced number of costal folds between adpressed limbs.

Distribution and Habitat

This species may be found in Montana de Santa Barbara at intermediate and high elevations (1829 to 2744 meters) on the Atlantic versant of western Honduras.
