Range Description

The species occurs in northeastern Madagascar - from Ambodivoahangy to Voloina - where it is thought to be a microendemic of the Antainambalana watershed (Pabijan et al. 2011). It is found at lower altitudes from below 50 m to approximately 300 m asl (Pabijan et al. 2011) and its extent of occurrence (EOO) is estimated at 1,637 km2.

Habitat and Ecology

It is typically resident of the moist, tropical lowland swamps and artificial wetlands, such as rice fields, as long as these areas are fringed with natural vegetation, and it is predisposed to inhabiting particularly dense vegetation next to standing water. It has also been found living in ditches covered by dense vegetation within urban areas. The species has not been found in primary or selectively logged forest and it reproduces by larval development and eggs are attached to leaves overhanging standing water (Pabijan et al. 2011).

Population

The species is considered common across its range and its population is thought to be stable.

Population Trend

stable

Major Threats

No significant threats to this species have been observed and it seems to fare well in anthropogenically modified landscapes (Pabijan et al. 2011).

Conservation Actions

It inhabits degraded and artificial areas surrounded by human activity, so habitat protection and management are not necessarily advantageous for this species.

Red List Status

Least Concern (LC)

Rationale

Listed as Least Concern as the species can tolerate disturbance within its habitat and it is common within its range.
