Description M 21-23 mm. Tibiotarsal articulation reaches slightly beyond snout tip. Hand without webbbing, foot with rudimentary webbing. Two dorsolateral dermal ridges. Colouration predominantly light brown. A continuous light stripe along the upper lip (Glaw and Vences 2007).
Variation: It is likely that G. blanci as well as G. boulengeri contain numerous undescribed cryptic species (Glaw and Vences 2007).
Distribution and Habitat
Country distribution from AmphibiaWeb's database: Madagascar
Ambalamarovandana, Fivahona, Imaitso forest, Iorantjatsy, Ivohibe, Ranomafana (Maharira forest, Vohiparara) (Glaw and Vences 2007). It has been recorded from 800-1,200 m asl and may possibly also occur at lower elevations (Vences and Glaw 2008).Life History, Abundance, Activity, and Special Behaviors Habits: Similar to G. boulengeri, in which males call during the day from the forest floor, or from perches up to 100 cm above the ground, in both dense rainforest and dense secondary vegetation, away from water (Glaw and Vences 2007).
Calls: Similar to those of G. boulengeri, but with a faster note repetition rate and often with less notes per call (up to 14) (Glaw and Vences 2007).
Trends and Threats Found within two protected areas: the Parc National de Ranomafana and the Parc National d’Andringitra. Threatened by habitat loss due to increasing subsistence agriculture, logging, charcoal manufacture, invasion and spread of eucalyptus, livestock grazing and expanding human settlement (Vences and Glaw 2008). Possible reasons for amphibian decline General habitat alteration and loss Habitat modification from deforestation, or logging related activities Intensified agriculture or grazing Urbanization Subtle changes to necessary specialized habitat
