This species can be found in the middle and upper Río Grijalva Basin from the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes and the Montañas de Cuilco in western Guatemala to north of Ocozocuautla in Chiapas, Mexico, from 600-1,000m asl.
Habitat and Ecology
This species occurs in premontane dry forest along small tributary streams. It reproduces by direct development.
It is probably uncommon in Guatemala.
Habitat loss and water pollution are the major threats to this species.
It should be noted that some other species of Craugastor that are associated with streams have undergone dramatic declines and disappearances, possibly due to chytridiomycosis, so the status of this species should be monitored carefully.
Red List Status
Data Deficient (DD)
Listed as Data Deficient since it has only recently been described, and there is still very little information on its extent of occurrence, status and ecological requirements.
This species was previously within the genus Eleutherodactylus (Crawford and Smith 2005).
