Range Description

This species is known from hilly areas in central and south-western Hainan, China, from 290-1,000m asl.

Habitat and Ecology

It inhabits small, low-gradient streams, seepages and marshes in forested areas, and breeds in streams.

Population

It is not a common species.

The major threat is habitat loss, in particular due to agriculture and infrastructure development.

It is present in several protected areas on the island.

Rationale

Listed as Vulnerable because its Extent of Occurrence is less than 20,000 km2, its distribution is severely fragmented, and there is continuing decline in the extent and quality of its forest habitat on Hainan Island, China.
