This species occurs in the cloud forests of the western flank of the Cordillera Occidental, from Risaralda Department to Valle del Cauca Department, Colombia, between 1,400–2,700 m asl. It occurs in three to five threat-defined locations and its EOO is 5,577 km2.

Habitat and Ecology

This species is found on the ground in primary and secondary cloud forests, but has not been recorded outside forest. It breeds by direct development.

Population

It is a locally common species. Due to ongoing decline in the extent and quality of habitat, the population is suspected to be decreasing.

Conservation Actions

Conservation Actions
This species occurs in Farallones de Cali National Park, and probably also in Tatamá National Park.

Conservation Needed
Further habitat protection is required.

Research Needed
Further research in population trends, ecology and distribution are recommended for the species.

Red List Status

Vulnerable (VU)

Rationale

Listed as Vulnerable because its extent of occurrence (EOO) is 5,577 km2, it occurs in about three to five threat-defined locations, and there is continuous decline in habitat extent and quality caused by cattle grazing, agricultural development and mining activities.

Taxonomic Notes

Lynch (1996b) notes misidentifications in earlier accounts.
