Terra Typica: Ellore (=Eluru, Andra Pradeh, India)

R. variegata is found in Sri Lanka, southeastern India, Uttar Pradesh, Nepal. In Sri lanka R. variegata is only found in the lower parts of the dry zone. The author has found R. variegata next to human settlements and in garden areas.

Life History, Abundance, Activity, and Special Behaviors
R. variegata is nocturnal, and is most easily found after heavy rain when mating begins. Males call from watersides, but it is very difficult to locate calling individuals, as they remain hidden amongst vegetation. After the rainy season this species can be found inside houses, especially swimming in toilets. During the drier season this species is very difficult to find.
