Range Description

The geographic range of this species is poorly understood (D. Iskandar pers. comm. May 2017). It is known with certainty only from Padang, West Sumatra Province, on the mainland of Sumatra, Indonesia. Specimens from Pagai, Siberut, Pini and Tanah Masa, in the Mentawai Islands, might belong to this species (and these records have been mapped in this assessment and coded as having uncertain presence), but this has not yet been confirmed (D. Iskandar pers. comm. May 2017). Records from mainland Sumatra are from 500–600 m asl.

Habitat and Ecology

Specimens have been collected from lowland forest and an open area in a very wet location in a ravine near degraded forest. It is unknown whether this species can tolerate some degree of habitat disturbance (D. Iskandar pers. comm. May 2017). It is assumed to be oviparous with terrestrial eggs and aquatic larvae.

The population status of this species is not known. The most recent records concern three specimens collected in the late 1990s.

Population Trend

Major Threats

There is no information on specific threats to this species. The forest on Siberut is relatively intact because it is protected by the local inhabitants (D. Iskandar pers. comm. May 2017). The main potential threat is habitat conversion for subsistence farming and commercial logging, but given this species' apparent degree of adaptability it is not clear to what extent it is impacted by these pressures.
