This species is known only from the non-specific type locality of "Surinam" (Daudin 1803). Specimens recently collected in French Guiana might prove to be this species, but further taxonomic work is needed to confirm their identification.

This is presumably a subterranean inhabitant of rainforest, and possibly also secondary habitats.

It is a poorly circumscribed species in need of taxonomic review (Wilkinson pers. comm.). Further survey work is needed to establish the limits of the species' range.
