Description
Schlegel's Green Tree Frog is a medium-sized frog; the mean snout to vent length in males is 35 mm (range 32-43) and for females it is 46 mm (range 43-53). The males have yellowish white nuptial pads and throats that are darkly colored. The forelimb and hindlimb webbing is not well developed. The skin on the back is almost completely smooth. The supratympanic fold is prominent, but no dorsolateral fold exists. This species has 7-8 vomerine teeth and a pair of slit-like vocal openings. The tips of the fingers have truncated discs with circummarginal grooves.

It is found on the islands of Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu in Japan. This species is generally found in either rice fields in the lowlands or marshes in the mountainous regions.

Comments
Z. schlegelii can be found in sympatry with Z. arboreus. The mating call of Z. schlegelii has 5-7 pulses which last for .2 seconds with an interval of .5 seconds.

Originally described as Rhacophorus schlegelii by Mou, Risch, and Lue, 1983, it was reassigned to Zhangixalus schlegelii by Jiang et al (2019).
