Description
Owston's Green Tree Frog is a relatively large frog. The mean snout to vent length for males is 45 mm (range 42-51) and for females it is 56 mm (range 50-67). This species has 7-9 vomerine teeth. Both the forelimb and hindlimb webbing are not well developed. In males, the nuptial pads are yellowish white. This species has a pair of slit-like vocal openings. The skin on the back of this species is smooth, and the throat is nearly smooth with scattered small granules. There is no dorsolateral fold but a supratympanic fold is prominent.

Zhangixalus owstoni is found on the islands of Ishikgakijima and Iriomotejima in Japan. This species inhabits forests in lowlands or mountainous regions.

Comments
This species is probably a close relative to Z. moltrechti from Taiwan. The mating call of this species is long, containing 20 pulses and lasting 1.6 seconds.
