Major Threats This species is threatened by the destruction of its forest habitat for small scale commercial harvest within its restricted range. It is also threatened by the general pollution and drainage of breeding sites and wetlands.
Conservation Actions This species is not found in any protected areas, and there is a need to conserve areas of suitable habitat. Further studies are needed into the distribution and natural history of this species.
Red List Status Endangered (EN)
Rationale This species is listed as Endangered because the Extent of Occurrence is less than 5,000 km2 and Area of Occupancy is less than 500 km2 with all individuals occurring in two locations, with ongoing habitat loss and fragmentation within the species range. In addition it has an estimated population of less than 2,500 mature individuals.
Taxonomic Notes We follow Veith et al. (2003), in considering this species to be distinct from Rana macrocnemis at the species level.
