Description
The holotype was described by Miranda-Ribeiro (1923), and the specimen (MZUSP 316) is held in the collection of the Museum of Zoology at the University of São Paulo (Duellman 1977).

Phrynomedusa fimbriata was found in south-eastern Brazil at "Alto da Serra", Paranapiacaba, Santo Andre, in the state of São Paulo at an elevation of 1,000 m (Stuart et al 2008).

Life History, Abundance, Activity, and Special Behaviors
Known only from the holotype. This species is extinct with the last documented sighting more than 80 years ago (Stuart et al 2008).
