Taxonomic Notes: Eleutherodactylus (Euhyas) fuscus and Eleutherodactylus (Syrrhophus) maurus are both valid species. Hedges (1989) provided the replacement name Eleutherodactylus (Syrrhophus) maurus for the Mexican species Eleutherodactylus (Syrrhophus) fuscus (Davis and Dixon 1955), a name that was preoccupied by the Jamaican Eleutherodactylus (Euhyas) fuscus (Lynn and Dent 1943); Hedges S B. 1989.
