This species is known from Serra dos Órgãos, (Teresópolis, Petrópolis, Guapimirim and Mage), Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. The true range of this species is most likely larger, in particular occurring between known sites. It has been recorded from around 1,750m asl.
Habitat and Ecology
This species is found on rocks along the edge of small montane streams in primary forest. It breeds in permanent streams. It has not been recorded outside primary forest.
It is a common species.
The habitat of this species is wholly within protected areas.
The species' entire range is protected within several protected areas. Maintenance and conservation of this habitat is required. More research into the species' Extent of Occurrence is also needed, as it might be much larger than is currently known.

Least Concern (LC)
Listed as Least Concern although its range is only about 2,000 km², it is very abundant, its habitat is largely within protected areas, and its population is not believed to be in decline.
This species was previously within the genus Hyla but has recently been moved to the genus Bokermannohyla (Faivovich et al. 2005).
