Range Description

This species is known only from its type locality, Khorixas, in northwestern Namibia. It almost certainly occurs more widely in the Kaokoveld area, and some previous records of other Tomopterna species, in particular T. tandyi, might refer to this species. Although endemic to Namibia, it may also occupy similar arid and semi-arid habitats in southern Angola (Herrmann and Branch 2013).

Habitat and Ecology

It has been found in arid wooded savanna adjacent to an urban area. There is no information regarding its breeding biology, although reproduction presumably takes place in temporary waterbodies, as with other congeners.

Population

There is no information on the population status of this species, which is known only from five specimens.

Population Trend

unknown

Major Threats

There is little information on threats to this species. The type locality is on the boundary of the town of Khorixas, which may pose a threat depending on the species' tolerance of habitat modification.

Conservation Actions

Conservation Actions

It is not known from any protected areas.

Research Needed

More information is needed on this species' distribution, population status, natural history, and threats.

Red List Status

Data Deficient (DD)

Rationale

Listed as Data Deficient in view of continuing uncertainties as to its extent of occurrence (EOO), population status and ecological requirements.
