This species is only known from Muli, in south-western Sichuan Province, China, from 3,050-3,400m asl.

Habitat and Ecology

It inhabits low-gradient streams and riparian habitats (mainly shrublands), and breeds in streams.

Taxonomic Notes

Zhao and Adler (1993) regarded this species to be synonymous with Scutiger ruginosus (= S. mammatus) without discussion.
