From the IUCN Red List Species Account:

Range Description

This species is known from Acultzingo town along the Puebla-Veracruz border to the Sierra Zongolica in Veracruz, Mexico, between 1,900-2,200 m asl. It occurs in fewer than five threat-defined locations and its extent of occurrence (EOO) is 181 km2.

Habitat and Ecology

The species is terrestrial and inhabits pine-oak forest to lower cloud forest, apparently requiring the presence of abundant bromeliads in mature trees and does not survive in heavily degraded habitats (though it is found at forest edge). It reproduces by direct development.

Population

The species is rare, but consistently located in small numbers from known localities. Due to ongoing declines in the extent and quality of habitat, the population is suspected to be decreasing.

Population Trend

decreasing

Major Threats

The major threat is the loss of large bromeliad-covered trees, particularly as habitat is being lost due to expanding agriculture, human settlements, and wood extraction.

Conservation Actions

Conservation Actions
This species may occur in Cañon del Río Blanco National Park, although this requires confirmation. This species is protected by Mexican law under the "Special Protection" category (Pr).

Conservation Needed
Habitat protection is urgently required.

Research Needed
Further research is required to determine whether this species occurs in Cañon del Río Blanco National Park.

Red List Status

Endangered (EN)

Rationale

Listed as Endangered because its extent of occurrence (EOO) is 181 km2, it occurs in fewer than five threat-defined locations, and there is a continuing decline in the extent and quality of its habitat.
