From the IUCN Red List Species Account:

Range Description

This species is restricted to the highlands of central and west-central Oaxaca, Mexico, between 2,200-2,700 m asl. It occurs in fewer than 10 threat-defined locations and its extent of occurrence (EOO) is 10,468 km2.

Habitat and Ecology

This is a terrestrial species which inhabits pine and pine-oak forests, hiding under bark and in leaf-litter. It can tolerate limited habitat disturbance, and is sometimes found in rural gardens and selectively logged lots. It reproduces by direct development.

Population

This species is fairly common, although it has not been seen at the type locality (Cerro San Felipe) for many years. Due to ongoing decline in the extent and quality of habitat, the population is suspected to be decreasing.

Population Trend

decreasing

Major Threats

The major threat is habitat loss due to extensive agricultural expansion (including slash and burn practices), human settlements and logging.

Conservation Actions

Conservation Actions
This species has not been recorded in any protected areas. It is listed as "Threatened" (Amenazada) by the Mexican government.

Conservation Needed
There is an urgent need for the protection of forest habitats of the Sierra de Juárez.

Research Needed
There is need for taxonomic research to understand this species complex.

Red List Status

Vulnerable (VU)

Rationale

Listed as Vulnerable because its extent of occurrence (EOO) is 10,468 km2, it occurs in fewer than 10 threat-defined locations, and there is a continuing decline in the extent and quality of its forest habitat in Oaxaca.

Taxonomic Notes

This form represents a species complex and is in need of taxonomic revision (G. Parra-Olea and D. Wake pers. comm.).
