Range Description

This species is known from western slopes of the Cordillera Oriental, near to municipalities of San Vicente de Chucurí, Tona, Piedecuesta, El Encino and Gambita in the department of Santander, and municipality of Duitama in Boyacá Department, Colombia (Colombia Red List Assessment Workshop August 2016). It occurs between 1,250–2,750 m asl. Its EOO is 5,565 km2 and it occurs in four threat-defined locations.

Habitat and Ecology

This species inhabits primary and secundary cloud forests, and is found on vegetation on the low stratum. It is not found outside forest habitat. It breeds by direct development.


It is a common species that has been recorded recently as 2013 (F. L. Meza-Joya pers. comm. August 2016). Arroyo et al. (2013) considers it very common in the Rasgón area. Due to ongoing decline in the extent and quality of habitat, the population is suspected to be decreasing.

Major Threats

The major threat to the species is habitat loss as a result of agriculture, including livestock and plantations, and agricultural pollution, principally in Santuario de Fauna y Flora de Guanentá (Colombia Red List Assessment Workshop August 2016).

Listed as Vulnerable because its extent of occurrence (EOO) is 5,565 km2, it is known from four threat-defined locations, and there is continuing decline in the quality of its habitat on the Eastern Cordillera of the Colombian Andes.
