Range Description

This species is only known from the ridge above the base camp near Chorro Blanco, ca 4.5 km (airline) northeast of Monte Seco, Cajamarca Region, Peru (Duellman and Lehr 2007). It occurs at 1,500 m asl. It is unknown whether this species is expected to occur more widely.

Habitat and Ecology

The species possibly occurs in isolated patches of cloud forest (W.E. Duellman pers. comm.). Although there is limited ecological information, it is expected to reproduce by direct development, as with other congeners.

Population

Little is known about the population status of this species, as it is only known from two adult male specimens collected in 1987 (Duellman and Lehr 2007).

Population Trend

unknown

Major Threats

Threats to the species are poorly understood. Based on satellite imagery, there has been some deforestation in the vicinity of the type locality for livestock. A wildlife refuge was designated in the area in 2011, however the level of protection this area provides the species is unknown.

Conservation Actions

Conservation Actions
The type locality occurs within Bosques Nublados de Udima Sector Centro, designated in 2011, however there is some habitat loss within this wildlife refuge.

Research Needed
More information is needed on this species' distribution, population status, ecology, and threats.

Red List Status

Data Deficient (DD)

Rationale

Listed as Data Deficient since there is still very little information on its extent of occurrence, population status, ecological requirements, and threats.

Taxonomic Notes

Included in the genus Pristimantis by Frost (2007). Recently placed in the family Strabomantidae by Hedges et al. (2008). Pristimantis amydrotus can be distinguished from other similar species by a combination of morphological features and colour patterns (Duellman and Lehr 2007).
