From the IUCN Red List Species Account:

Range Description

This species is known from central and northern Borneo (both Malaysia and Indonesia), and the islands of Balabac and Palawan in the Philippines. In Borneo it has been recorded from 700-2,900m asl, but in the Philippines it is known from much lower altitudes of 30-1,000m asl. It probably occurs more widely than current records suggest.

Habitat and Ecology

It occurs in submontane and montane forests, where it is usually seen in the low shrub layer, and has not been found outside forests. It breeds by direct development.

Population

Large sample sizes at one locality in central Palawan indicate that this species might have been common at the time.

Population Trend

decreasing

Major Threats

In the Philippines some populations of this species are threatened by habitat conversion to agricultural land. In Borneo, deforestation is a major threat.

Conservation Actions

Some of the remaining patches of this species' habitat are currently within protected areas.

Red List Status

Near Threatened (NT)

Rationale

Listed as Near Threatened since although this species is still relatively widely distributed, it depends on areas of undisturbed forest habitat, and so its Area of Occupancy is probably not much greater than 2,000 km2, and the extent and quality of its habitat is declining, thus making the species close to qualifying for Vulnerable.

Taxonomic Notes

Taxonomic studies are needed to clarify the status of the Palawan populations compared with the Bornean populations of this species.
