Range Description

This species is occurs on Bohol, Mindanao, and Basilan Islands in the Philippines where it occurs between 400–2,000 m asl, but it is expected to occur more widely than currently mapped (A. Diesmos pers. comm. March 2018).

Habitat and Ecology

This species inhabits arboreal and occasionally terrestrial microhabitats in mossy and montane rainforests, and can be found in forest edge (A. Diesmos pers. comm. March 2018). It breeds by direct development.

Population

It is a common species. Due to ongoing decline in the extent and quality of habitat, the population is suspected to be decreasing.

Population Trend

decreasing

Major Threats

The major threat is the destruction and conversion of both lowland and montane rainforest habitat on Mindanao due to small-scale agricultural activities, large-scale oil palm plantations, wood collection for charcoal production, and expanding human settlements (Philippines Red List Assessment Workshop May 2017). There is also nickel, chromite, and gold mining, and limestone and marble quarrying in eastern Mindanao.

Conservation Actions

Conservation Actions
Some subpopulations of this species are protected in national parks.

Conservation Needed
There remains a need for improved protection of remaining forested habitats on Mindanao.

Research Needed
More information is needed on this species' distribution, population status and trends.

Red List Status

Vulnerable (VU)

Rationale

Listed as Least Concern in view of its wide distribution and presumed large population.
