Range Description

This species is known from Valle del Cauca Department, northwards through Chocó and Risaralda departments to Antioquia Department, on the western flank of the western Andes, in Colombia, between 900–1,450 m asl. It probably occurs more widely, but the current range probably represents fewer than 10 threat-defined locations and its EOO is 17,467 km2.

Habitat and Ecology

This species occurs in rainforests and sub-Andean forest, and is often found on vegetation along streams (being restricted to streams with canopy cover). It lays its eggs on the upper surface of leaves and, when hatched, the tadpoles drop into the stream below.

Population

It is an uncommon species. Due to ongoing decline in the extent and quality of habitat, the population is suspected to be decreasing.

Population Trend

decreasing

Major Threats

Major threats include habitat loss and fragmentation due to the expansion of agriculture (cattle raising and planting of illegal crops) occurring throughout its range.

Conservation Actions

Conservation Actions
The range of the species includes Orquideas National Park and Catamá National Park.

Conservation Needed
Additional habitat protection is required.

Research Needed
Further research in population trends, ecology and distribution are recommended for the species.

Red List Status

Vulnerable (VU)

Rationale

Listed as Vulnerable because its extent of occurrence (EOO) is 17,467 km2, it occurs in fewer than 10 threat-defined locations, and there is continuing decline in the extent and quality of its habitat due to the expansion of agriculture (cattle raising and planting of illegal crops).
