Range Description

This species is known from a single site near Gatiko in the Ouaka prefecture of the Central African Republic (Channing et al., 2013). The full distribution of the range of this species is unclear.

Habitat and Ecology

It is associated with emergent vegetation at the margins of swamps, rivers, vleis, lakes and pools in savannah and grassland habitats, where is also breeds by larval development.

Population

The species is known from 18 individuals at a single site and thus little is known about the species' population size and trends.

Population Trend

unknown

Major Threats

Little is known of the habitat and distribution of this species, so inferring the threats to this species is problematic. However this region is undergoing large habitat changes including agricultural expansion and human settlements could be a problem for it.

Conservation Actions

Research Needed
Further work is required to better understand the species' taxonomy and hence its distribution, population size and trends, ecological requirements, and threats.

Red List Status

Data Deficient (DD)

Rationale

The species is listed as Data Deficient because there is insufficient information on its distribution, population size and trends, and potential threats to its survival.

Taxonomic Notes

This species was removed from synonymy with Hyperolius nasutus by Channing et al. 2013.
