Range Description

This species is known from the middle and upper Magdalena River Valley in Colombia, occuring in the Departments of Antioquia (Puerto Triunfo, San Carlos, San Luis and Sonsón), Boyacá (Puerto Boyacá), Caldas (La Victoria, Norcasia and Samaná), Cesar (Quebrada Caño la Batea, San Martin - type locality), Santander (Landazuri) and Tolima (Mariquita) (Ospina-Sarria et al. 2015). Subpopulations from the Magdalena River Valley previously identified as Craugastor fitzingeriC. longirostris and some C. raniformis correspond to this species (Ospina-Sarria et al. 2015). Its known altitudinal range is between 115–1,150 m asl (Ospina-Sarria et al. 2015) and its extent of occurrence (EOO) is 46,123 km2.

Habitat and Ecology

This species inhabits primary and secondary evergreen forest. It is found on rocks within and along streams and on the ground or vegetation up to 1.5 m above the ground (Ospina-Sarria et al. 2015). It is likely to breed by direct development like other congeners.

Population

This species seems to be common within its known range. Due to ongoing decline in the extent and quality of habitat, the population is suspected to be decreasing.

Major threats to the habitat of this species include timber extraction, African palm and teak plantations. Localized threats include urban development.
