Range Description

This species is known from the type locality: within Bosque de Protección de Pagaibamba, 2–3 km NW (straightline) of El Pargo along the Llama-Huambos Road, Cajamarca Region, Peru (Lehr 2007). It occurs from 3,000–3,100 m asl.

Habitat and Ecology

Nothing is known about the species' ecology (Lehr 2007). The species' likely habitat may be puna or dry forests of the western cordillera (E. Lehr pers. comm. 2008). Breeding is presumably by direct development.

Major Threats

There is some habitat loss in the vicinity of the type locality, but it is unknown whether the species occurs outside of the protected area and whether threats are encroaching enough to affect it. If it does occur in dry forests, these are threatened by deforestation in northern Peru (E. Lehr pers. comm. 2008).

This species occurs within Bosque de Protección de Pagaibamba, established in 1987. It is listed as Critically Endangered (CR) in Peru according to the Categorization in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna (Decreto Supremo Nº004-2014-MINAGRI).
