Description
M 36-38 mm. A very conspicuous frog of a distinct green-brown dorsal patterning and large spines all over the body. Ventral side greenish, femoral glands greenish (Glaw and Vences 2007).

Distribution and Habitat

An'Ala, Andasibe, Anjanaharibe, Vohidrazana (Glaw and Vences 2007). It occurs between 500-1,200 m asl, along brooks in primary forest (Andreone and Glaw 2008).

Life History, Abundance, Activity, and Special Behaviors
Habits: In rainforests, calling from elevated positions of 2-4 m in the vegetation along streams (Glaw and Vences 2007). Breeding takes place in streams (Andreone and Glaw 2008).

Calls: A series of 4-5 "metallic" double-click notes (Glaw and Vences 2007).

Trends and Threats
Locally abundant but seasonal. It occurs in three protected areas: the Réserve Spéciale d'Analamazaotra, and Masoala and Marojejy National Parks. It has not been found in degraded habitat (Andreone and Glaw 2008).
