Description
The body of this species is stocky. The canthus is blunt, and the tympanum is circular. There are 3-6 vomerine teeth. The hindlimb webbing is poorly developed, and the tips of the fingers and toes are dilated into small discs with circummarginal grooves. The skin on the back contains some granules, and the sides are scattered with tubercles. The dorsolateral fold is evident. No vocal sac or opening exists. The males have poorly developed nuptial pads that have granules which are yellow in color. The glandular ridge is either absent or poorly developed in females. The mean snout to vent length for males is 42 mm (range 42-43), and for females it is 43 mm (range 42-44).

R. okinavana is found on the islands of Ishigakijima and Iriomotejima in Japan. The species inhabits plains and mountainous regions. The species apparently occurs naturally in one pond on northern Taiwan.

Life History, Abundance, Activity, and Special Behaviors
18-80 brown eggs with a diameter of 1.7-2.2 mm are laid. The breeding period is from August to November. The mating call lasts 3 sec with 18 notes. This species has 5 large and 8 small pairs of chromosomes making 26 in total.
