Description
The head is broader than the body and broader than long. In dorsal view, the snout is subacuminate and relatively long; rounded when viewed laterally. The posterior portion of the eyelid has low subconical tubercles. The interorbital region is flat and lacks cranial crests. Choanae are triangular with the apex facing posteriorly. Vomerine odontophores are posteromedially placed relative to the choanae, elevated and triangular in outline. Each is smaller than the choanae and separated medially by a distance approximately one-half to one width of the odontophores; each bears 8-10 teeth in a transverse row. Dorsal skin is shagreen except for the tubercles on the eyelids; an occipital W is immediately adjacent to the supratympanic fold. Skin becomes coarser posteriorly. Dorsolateral folds are low and granular, extending to the groin. Thenar tubercle is oval and much smaller than the oval palmar tubercle. The supernumerary palmar tubercles are not evident. The outer fingers bear expanded, round to subtruncate discs about twice as wide as digit proximal to disc. All fingers have pads on digital tips. The inner digits have thinner discs that are only slightly wider than the finger. The heel has a subconical tubercle.

The dorsal coloration, in life, is as follows: the dorsum is brown with dark brown markings; throat and belly bluish white with brown mottling. Other ventral surfaces are dull gray. The iris is dark bronze iris with black reticulations.

Pristimantis illotus is a member of the P. conspicillatus group. Pristimantis illotus is most similar to P. achatinus except for having a small tubercle on the heel and brown coloration on the venter. Pristimantis illotus also lacks vocal slits and nuptial pads.
