Range Description
This species occurs on the western slopes of the Western and Central Cordilleras in Colombia, from Antioquia Department, south to the Pacific versant of the Andes of north and central Ecuador (south to Cotopaxi Province). It has been recorded at 1,140-2,710m asl.
Habitat and Ecology
It lives on vegetation, usually along streams, but also beside still water, in cloud forest. It also lives near pastures, roadsides, but always close to forest. It breeds in streams and still pools.

It is a common species.

Major Threats
The major threats are: deforestation for agricultural development, illegal crops, logging, and human settlement; introduction of alien predatory fish in streams; and pollution resulting from the spraying of illegal crops.
Conservation Actions
In Ecuador its distribution range overlaps with Reserva Ecológica Cotacachi-Cayapas and Reserva Ecológica Los Illinizas. It occurs in many protected areas in Colombia.
Taxonomic Notes
As used by Lynch and Duellman (1973) this name applies to the species currently recognized as Centrolenella lynchi.
