Description
This moderate-sized species of Hyloxalus is known only from a female having a snout-vent length of SVL of 24.0 mm. The discs on the fingers and toes are expanded, half again the width of the penultimate phalanges. Fingers I and II are equal in length. Lateral fringes are present on the fingers and toe. An outer tarsal fold is absent; a tarsal tubercle is present, and the inner tarsal fold is slightly curved on the distal half of the tarsus. The toes are webbed basally. In preservative, the dorsum of the head and body are dull brown with a discontinuous middorsal longitudinal dark brown stripe. The upper lips are cream; the flanks are brown with cream tips on scattered granules. The dorsolateral stripes are pale tan; they originate on the snout, pass along the canthus rostralis and outer edge of the upper eyelid to the upper insertion of hind limb. They are bordered below on the head by a broad dark brown stripe and bordered above on the body by a narrow dark brown stripe. Oblique lateral and ventrolateral stripes are absent. The dorsal surfaces of the hind limbs are tan with indistinct brown spots. The anterior and posterior surfaces of the thighs are brown with irregular small cream marks; the forelimbs are tan with a dark brown longitudinal stripe on the proximal part of the anterior surface of the upper arm and on the entire length of posterior surfaces of the upper arm. The venter is cream with many small brown spots on throat, chest, and abdomen. A median lingual process is absent, and the color of the testes is not known (Duellman 2004).

This species is known only from the type locality at an elevation of 2326 m in humid montane forest on the western slopes of the Cordillera Colán in northern Peru.
